tell her you didn't realize the lease thing until your husband made you aware and that you don't want to get into any trouble with your landlord. best not to get involved, even if her family is really far away they could come up with some money for a cheap plane ticket or bus ticket or even gas money for her to drive to where they are. be there for her, be honest with her but don't get in the middle of it.
