My new new ipod won't turn on and I just got it today like 1 hour ago! HELP PLEASE! ?

look let me put it this way i went to a mall today like an hour ago and my mom bought me an ipod touch its brand new and it I turned it on with the on on top and then this thing popped up it has a picture of a cd and a music note on it and it says itunes and has an arrow pointing to a ipod charger and i charged it to my laptop and its fully charged i keep clicking home but it doesnt do anything please help me!!!!!! please i beg you its saturday and on monday I have school and I want to bring it to recess but if it doesnt work obviously I can't use it! please please please a thousand times please someone help!!!
